Charice, Glee’s Sunshine Corazon, performed in front of half a million souls who flocked to New York’s Rockefeller Center for the nationally-televised 78th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Event. She breathed new life into classic holiday favorites that wowed not only New York but also the rest of the world.
The LIVE Performance
Charice, sporting a tweed coat, red gloves, a new chic hairstyle reminiscent of Japanese actress Chiaki Kuriyama, delivered another flawless performance of “Jingle Bell Rock”, replete with the vocal acrobatics that are a rare sight (or sound?) in today’s massively auto-tuned music industry.| “She was great! That song is a fav [favorite] of mine,” said United States Ambassador to Thailand Christie Kenney. Charice also effortlessly yet soulfully sang “Grown-up Christmas List”, one of the songs in her 3-track Christmas mini-album. Charice sang this song with so much emotion that some members of the audience claimed that they were brought to tears. Natalie Morales, one of the show’s host, exclaimed, “Wow! Star-studded Line-up
Charice was part of a powerhouse list of performers that included both music legends and the most popular stars of today.Mariah Carey wore an elegant red dress that resembled a classy poncho when she pre-recorded her Rockefeller Center performance a couple of days back.
Another surprise of the night was a duet from Katherine Jenkins and the young star Jackie Evancho, whose soprano voices lift everyone’s spirits.
Kylie Minogue, Sheryl Crow, Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Jessica Simpson and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Susan Boyle also performed on Christmas in Rockefeller Center, NBC’s New York City kickoff to the holiday season.
Technical Glitch
Discussion boards were abuzz right after the “Jingle Bell Rock” Performance, because of a technical glitch that caused an unrelated song track to accidentally play during Charice’s performance.The anchor just introduced Charice to the nationwide NBC audience. As the camera zoomed to Charice, a Boyz II Men track was suddenly played for approximately ten seconds. The New York audience was confused.
David Foster, who was to play the piano accompaniment, took her mic and said, “LIVE TV, are you having a great time? There ain’t nothing like live TV here in New York City. We’re gonna get this right in the next 15 seconds. So stay right where you are, hang on.”
Foster handed the mic back to Charice. About five seconds later, the magic started.
